History

Gutu Mission Hospital, a leading Christian healthcare provider in Gutu Zimbabwe, was established in 1930.

Gutu Mission Hospital is a secondary referral medical centre with various departments, committed to delivering sustainable quality health care and community services in Gutu District and beyond. We service 30 primary healthcare facilities in Gutu District with an estimated population of 250000 people.

The Mission was established in 1891 and medical work commenced in 1930. Owned by the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe, Gutu Mission Hospital strives to uphold Christian values in providing comprehensive medical care and support to all patients.

Vision: To be the leading Christian Organization in providing sustainable and quality health care and community based services in Gutu District and beyond.

Mission: Providing holistic and affordable health care and community services in a non-discriminatory manner through strategic leadership and partnerships guided by Christian Values.

GMH Management

Station Superintendent

Rev. Taru Mugoni is the Station Superintendent of Gutu Mission Station. With a strong foundation in theology and a decade of experience in ministry, including roles at Rusape Congregation and as Chair of the ZCC in Makoni District, Rev. Mugoni brings a wealth of leadership and community engagement to his current position. His primary focus is on elevating Gutu Mission Station to a center of excellence, overseeing the hospital, nursing school, and primary and high schools. Committed to modernizing facilities, recruiting top-tier professionals, and implementing innovative practices, Rev. Mugoni aims to provide high-quality healthcare, education, and overall community development.

Medical Superintendent

Dr. Lohela Olenga Benjamin is the Medical Superintendent at Gutu Mission Hospital, bringing over 13 years of medical expertise to the role. Earning his medical degree from the University of Lubumbashi in D.R. Congo in 2010, Dr. Benjamin began his career in Zimbabwe at Masvingo Provincial Hospital in 2012. Since 2021, he has led the medical team at Gutu Mission Hospital. Passionate about surgery and obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Benjamin envisions the hospital reaching the standards of an international referral center with comprehensive resources. The Med Sup is a devoted Christian. Outside of medicine, Dr. Benjamin enjoys spending time with his family and following football.

Adminstrator

Mr Tatenda Manaka is the Hospital Administrator of Gutu Mission Hospital, a 168-bed teaching facility in Gutu, Zimbabwe. With over

7 years of healthcare leadership experience, Mr. Manaka has driven significant growth and transformation at the hospital since assuming his role in 2021. Previously, he held the position of HR Officer at the same institution. His expertise in strategic planning, operational efficiency, and patient care has been instrumental in modernizing the hospital's infrastructure and implementing advanced systems like electronic medical records. Under Mr. Manaka's leadership, GMH has earned recognition for its high-quality care and patient satisfaction. Beyond his professional endeavors, he is actively involved in both professional organizations and social work.

Matron

Mrs Memory Mupandawana is the Clinical Matron at Gutu Mission Hospital. A dedicated healthcare professional with a passion for patient care, she has been instrumental in providing quality nursing services at the hospital. Ms. Mupandawana began her nursing journey at Gutu Mission School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered General Nurse in 2009. She furthered her education with a Diploma in Midwifery in 2015 and a Diploma in Nursing Administration in 2022. Her extensive experience and qualifications have equipped her with the necessary skills to excel in her role. Committed to continuous learning and growth, Ms. Mupandawana is dedicated to improving the lives of her patients.

Tutor in Charge

Mrs. Pelagia Mateveke is the Tutor in Charge at Gutu Mission Hospital’s Nursing School, where she has fostered a strong commitment to producing compassionate and God-fearing nurses since January 2018. Under her leadership, the school aims to equip students with the skills and values necessary to excel in nursing careers both domestically and internationally. A dedicated family woman and avid learner, Mrs. Mateveke is also passionate about embracing technology in education.

Chaplain

Reverend T Pfute is the Chaplain at Gutu Mission Hospital, offering spiritual guidance and counseling to patients, their families, and hospital staff. A Bible school graduate, Reverend Pfute leads devotional services at the hospital. His role extends beyond spiritual care, as he also provides counseling support to those in need.
